Meet Jim (@whatthemech) with his manga and gundam inspired builds.

Jim got back into LEGO after his wife bought him the UCS General Grevius set. Each build takes around 3 months to create, with each having their own challenges and details.

Here’s a little bit more about  Jim

What got you into  building LEGO as an adult fan?
I got into lego after my wife bought me the UCS General Grevius

What’s the name of your build and what inspired it?
The build is called LEGO Mecha and I was inspired by manga and Gundam

Roughly how long did this display take to design and build?
The bigger builds took around 3 months and the smaller builds took around 1 month.

Is there a detail that people tend to miss?
I put a little mushroom on every build. It’s my little signature.

What’s the biggest challenge in bringing this build together?
It was waiting for bits to arrive. I don’t build on a minifigure scale so I don’t really have a stopping point at times.


What part of the display are you most proud of?
I am really proud of my space hulk.

What’s your next LEGO project after this one?
I’m thinking of building a cathedral with a lurking mech. I learnt alot about architecture structure with the design.

Additional: If LEGO could make a new theme what would you want them to make?
I would love a classic space reboot.
