Meet Matt (@the.bricklife) bringing a classic LEGO town into the modern day!
Here’s a little bit more about Matt and his amazing creation.
What got you into building LEGO as an adult fan?
During lockdown we had lots of time and found that we had lots of LEGO. I really enjoyed vintage LEGO as a child and also as an adult.
What’s the name of your build and what inspired it?
Classic Lego Town. I was inspired by using all the old vintage LEGO sets.
Roughly how long did this display take to design and build?
It took around 2 years, but I continue to add and change parts of the build.
Is there a detail that people tend to miss?
There’s a fireman rescuing a cat from the tree.
What’s the biggest challenge in bringing this build together?
The biggest challenge was mixing new technologies and the old 12v trains. As the 12v trains are very old, I want to look after them and not damage them.
What part of the display are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of the space launch pad and the motorised helicopter.

What’s your next LEGO project after this one?
LEGO classic pirates.
Additional: If LEGO could make a new theme what would you want them to make?
I would like LEGO robotics to come back. There really seems to be a gap in the market for it right now.
