Meet James and Clare (@mysticbrickrealms) bringing an epic medieval battle to life with their incredible LEGO display, The Siege of Ashenstone!

Here’s more about what inspired James and Clare with their MOC and how it all began.

What got you into building LEGO as an adult fan?
James: Clare’s dad was the one that got us back into Lego. We both had Lego when we were younger. I had Space and Pirates but got left behind when our family moved.
Clare: I remember having boxes of LEGO bricks and using them to build my own designs.

What’s the name of your build and what inspired it?
The build is called The Siege of Ashenstone, and it was inspired from James’ love of Castle.

Roughly how long did this display take to design and build?
The battle scene started in 2023 as a strip of base plates with a battle of minifigures at our first show at Sale brick show and has expanded to what it is today. The village scene is the latest edition.

Is there a detail that people tend to miss?
The detailing and the scenes that are hidden.

What’s the biggest challenge in bringing this build together?
Setting up the minifigures, the build took us both 8hrs to set up.

What part of the display are you most proud of?
James: The church is the the part I’m most proud of. All of the buildings are my own design.
Clare: I love the trees, and the detailing.

Are you planning to display this anywhere else? If so, where can people see it next – or follow its journey online?
The Battle scene will be ending it’s journey at Bricktastic but the village is being taken to: Black country brick show, Mossley brick show, Rochdale, North Notts and Lymm; the church is going to Sale and Bolton brick show. More content will be on @mysticbrickrealms on Instagram and Facebook.

What’s your next LEGO project after this one?
We have a joint build we are planning and some small builds we are each doing.

Additional: If LEGO could make a new theme what would you want them to make?
James: Cyberpunk.
Clare: Bridgerton or Gilmore Girls.
