Members Spotlight – Margaret & Sarah
Meet Margaret and Sarah, who have been inspired by David Attenborough and designed their own museum.
Can you spot all of the hidden David Attenborough references within their build?
Here’s a little bit more about Maragaret and Sarah
What got you into building LEGO as an adult fan?
Margaret – My sisters daughter is autistic and had a lot of LEGO sets but with missing parts. I put them together and enjoyed it, then I went on to Bricktastic and enjoyed the show. I spoke to NB and joined from there. Then the first year I made a collab for a golf course (made 19th), then first displayed at lymm.
Sarah – I got into LEGO because my Mum was into it we shared ideas and I became enthusiastic about the builds
What’s the name of your build and what inspired it?
Life In Lego: David Attenborough. We got a lot of parts and the ideas came together. We were inspired by David Attenboroughs work.
Roughly how long did this display take to design and build?
Year for design and 3 weeks to build
Is there a detail that people tend to miss?
The bat cave tucked into the cliff. There is a famous scene where David Attenborough said bats have great sonar and will never hit anything then a bat hit him but didn’t make it into the episode.
What’s the biggest challenge in bringing this build together?
Transportation: in particular when put the museum on the floor then tripped over it into the waterfall and had to rebuild for Bricktastic
What part of the display are you most proud of?
The waterfall design
Are you planning to display this anywhere else? If so, where can people see it next – or follow its journey online?
Mainly Northern Brickworks Shows
What’s your next LEGO project after this one?
A big museum with different exhibits with reference to Sarah’s museum (Harris museum in Preston (main hub); Helmshore textile museum & clitheroe castle museum)
Additional: If LEGO could make a new theme what would you want them to make?
LEGO make everything we want
