Code of conduct

Northern Brickworks – Code of conduct.

We believe that everyone should be comfortable sharing, discussing connecting in our community. Not everyone will have the same views, but we do want everyone to feel like they belong. Hate, discrimination intimidation etc have no place here. If you think someone is making others unwelcome etc, we’ll aim to put a stop to it. The committee encourage you to report any violations, so that together we can keep our community spaces safe, inclusive, and fun.

These guidelines outline what we will and will not allow in Northern Brickworks. They’re subject to change and we’ll review them regularly annually to make sure they’re up to date. They are in addition to our constitution and that will always take precedent.

The community belongs to us all:

  • Be respectful: It’s OK not to agree with someone’s point of view. However, it’s not OK to attack them personally because their views are different.
  • Be welcoming: We want our community to be open and inclusive to everyone.
  • Be kind: Find ways to encourage and support each other, be generous with compliments
  • Be aware of your words and actions.
  • Protect others around you and the community by reporting violations.
  • All Northern Brickworks venues may be shared with members of the public or be in a sensitive setting (e.g. a library, school, church, shopping centre); please be respectful to all patrons of these locations

How we respond to violations

We encourage our members to report any content, comments or actions that are not in line with these guidelines. If online users violate our Code of Conducts, we will hide or delete comments and act quickly to respond.

Incidents and Reporting – Procedure (As per the current Northern Brickworks Constitution

In the event of a member submitting a complaint about another member or the RLUG itself, the complaint will in the first instance be sent to the Chair. If the complaint is about the Chair it will be sent to the Vice-Chair and Ambassador.

For each complaint, the complaint receiver will pass the complaint onto a nominated investigator co-opted by the committee for the duration of the complaint to handle the particular matter. This person will be selected for their impartiality and related skills and allow the Chair (or other committee members) to remain impartial in the process. The investigator will gather all relevant information and draft a response to the committee for recommendation. The receiver of the complaint will then be sent the recommendations and any actions carried out.

In the event the complainant is not happy with the outcome, they can request an appeal. In this instance, the Chair will directly review the gathered evidence, and make a decision. This decision is final. It will be noted that the appeal can result in one of two actions – no change to the recommendations, amendments to the recommendations.

Any complaint that is not directly sent to the Chair (or Vice-Chair/Ambassador if the Chair is the subject) will not be reviewed.

The Northern brickworks Committee has the right to take any actions needed to keep our website, forum, social media pages and events welcoming for all and to ensure that Northern Brickworks and its members remain compliant with any official support programs.

Measures taken may include warning the offender, mediating solutions between parties, or taking any other action the team considers necessary. Where warranted, additional actions may include suspension of posting privileges, removal from events, repeat or persistent offenders will be omitted from future opportunities that the user group may be offered for a period of 12 months and for the most serious incidents, expulsion from membership.
